about

PLM 008 - Ebaugh - Live At The Mood Indigo

Here is the newest addition
to the collected works
of the insatiably exploratory
Ebaugh. Recorded "live"
at San Diego's "Mood Indigo"
this beautifully recorded album
captures the freedom and intimacy
of their performances. Here is
Ebaugh...furiously driving
forward...alive...communicating
to a "live" audience...and you are there.

San Diego-based Ebaugh assembled a gang of improvisers for two shows geared around loose arrangements with maximum freedom for the musicians, with just enough sense of direction to drive the sonic expedition high and low; into droning calculated beauty alongside unrelenting thrash jazz maximalism. Albert Ayler is paid appropriate homage with a rendition of “Truth is Marching In”, pointing towards the reference and inspiration for this sound and musical approach. If Ayler was the self proclaimed Holy Ghost in the trinity of liberatory jazz music, then it’s safe to say the Ebaugh group is haunted, if not possessed by the spirit of freedom which underpins this music. The black hole is singing in quiet San Diego, and Live at The Mood Indigo is evidence that there are people brave enough to sing back.
